Greetings, Prince William:  Help keep our Marines looking sharp while extending the life of their service uniforms!  USO Quantico Main is hosting Semper Sewing: Uniform Repair Day on February 20, 10am-3pm and sewing-skilled volunteers are needed to lend a hand.  Come armed with your sewing machine and stitching skills, and you'll make a real impact by assisting with minor uniform repairs for active-duty Marines.  It's a fun and meaningful way to give back and show appreciation for those who serve!  Location: USO Quantico Main, 3049 Bordelon Street, Marine Corps Base Quantico.  Please visit HTTPS://BIT.LY/USOSEMPERSEWING to register.  Questions or need to access the base?  Please email hsullivan@uso.org.

 

·  The spring semester (March 7-June 25) for BEACON for English Language and Literacy is fast approaching!  They're recruiting for morning and evening Volunteer Teachers and Substitutes, both online and in-person.  One-day-a-week and two-day-a-week options are available at various class levels.  Evening classes meet 7pm-9pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Manassas, Manassas Park, or on Zoom.  Morning classes meet 9:30am-11:30am on Mondays and Wednesdays in Manassas or on Zoom.  No teaching or foreign language experience is required, and training is provided.  To learn more, please sign up for a virtual information session at https://bit.ly/43zEFTv or contact Seth at 571.428.2524.

·   If you enjoy going fishing, here's something for you!  Brain Injury Services (BIS) needs a volunteer to be a PALS (Providing a Link for Survivors) for a brain injury survivor who lives in Prince William County; this individual enjoys going fishing.  Once a month outings for other things such as coffee, walks, chess, lunch, etc. can help this client get their life back on track following a traumatic brain injury!  Please visit www.braininjurysvcs.org/volunteer/ for more information, email mthyen@braininjurysvcs.org or call 703.451.8881 ext. 232 to learn how you can help this individual.

·   Save the Date!  The Bull Run Watershed Protectors invite you to the Bull Run Watershed Spring Cleanup 2025 being held March 8, 9am-11am.  Volunteers will help clean up the stream valley behind Costco, across Lomond to Ashton Avenue and the shops/restaurants adjacent down to Walgreens at Sudley Manor Drive.  Families, students, scouts, teams, and other groups are welcome.  Earn Volunteer Hours!  Volunteers will meet at the Walgreens parking lot, 10671 Sudley Manor Drive, Manassas 20109.  Gloves, safety vests, trash bags and grabbers will be loaned to participants for the cleanup.  You'll feel great being part of a movement that has removed over 14,000 pounds of trash since 2018!  Please visit their Sign-Up Genius page at https://bit.ly/3EuMdi0 to register.  Rain Date:  March 15.

·   You can make a difference in the life of a child! CASA CIS needs volunteers age 21+ who care about children growing up in a safe, permanent and loving home.  The staff will hold their next Virtual Information Session on February 26, 6pm-7pm.  Learn how you can help protect abused and neglected children in your community by becoming a volunteer advocate.  Please email jpolen@casacis.org or call 703.330.8145 to receive the link to the meeting or to inquire about alternate dates.

·  The recent snowstorm caught many of us off-guard, and the good folks at CRi want to make sure they're prepared for the next storm!  They're assembling their volunteer Snow Patrol, an on-call team which they can reach out to in the event that one of their group homes needs help shoveling snow or taking the necessary precautions to keep their special needs residents safe. Volunteers age 14+ are welcome, and you'll feel great as you help create a safe environment for their clients to enter and leave the home!  To be added to CRi's Snow Patrol volunteers this season, please email Shannon at volunteer@mycri.org.

·   You can be a HERo to young girls - Girls on The Run Northern Virginia is preparing for their Spring season March 3-May 19, and they need Volunteer Coaches age 16+ to coach teams in the greater Prince William community!  No experience needed; just a desire to support and encourage the next generation.  Must commit to 2-3 hours a week for the season with a few additional hours required for Coach Training and the GOTR NOVA season-ending 5K celebration.  Coaches receive all the tools and support they need and find that they get as much out of coaching as they give.  You'll feel awesome as you help young girls gain confidence in themselves and their abilities!  Please visit www.gotrnova.org/coach to learn more, email info@gotrnova.org for more information.

·  The "Power of A Knock" can help a homebound senior get nutritious meals!  Meals on Wheels urgently needs volunteers to deliver meals to homebound senior citizens on weekday mornings.  Volunteers must pass a criminal and driving record background check.  Routes take about 1.5 hours to complete, training is provided.  You'll feel great when you find out how inspiring it is to serve this vulnerable population and make their day!  Please visit www.pwcva.gov/department/area-agency-aging/volunteer for more information and forms.  Please email tsolomon@pwcgov.org or call 703.792.4583 to learn more.

·  The dedicated staff at Willing Warriors in Haymarket is always on the lookout for volunteers either in groups or individually who can support their mission to "Provide cost-free retreat stays and programs that positively impact wounded, ill, and injured service members, disabled Veterans, and their families."  Opportunities such as admin support, event assistance, beautification days, fundraising and much more are available to support veterans and their families during their stays at the Warrior Retreat at Bull Run.  It's a wonderful way to support our veterans and their families as they get a much-needed break from all the medical appointments, hospital stays, and other issues associated with recovery!  Please email volunteer@willingwarriors.org for more information.

·  Your office, group or club can provide the comfort of a hot meal during the winter months!  Streetlight Community Outreach Ministries' hypothermia shelter located at 14716 Potomac Mills Road in Woodbridge has an ongoing need for groups to prepare and drop off meals for 30 adult residents through March 31.  Meals are needed each night and should be prepared off-site and dropped off at the shelter between 6:30pm-7pm.  There are many openings in February and March, and you'll feel great as you provide a hot, nourishing meal for the homeless to enjoy!  Please visit https://bit.ly/3XXR5SR to sign up and get more information, email thermalshelter@thestreetlight.org or call 571.677.2883 to learn more.
