Greetings, Prince William:  There's still time to help Volunteer Prince William at the Prince William County Fair!  If you have a few hours to spare this week, volunteers age 16+ are needed to support our concession stand.  Opportunities include taking food/drink orders, wrapping & serving food, accepting payments and maintaining cleanliness of the area.  A portion of the funds raised from sales will go to support this year's Untrim-A-Tree.  No experience necessary, we'll train you on the spot!  Please visit https://bit.ly/3SuHaCj to sign up, email jhawkins@volunteerprincewilliam.org to learn more.

 

·  Mark Your Calendars for Volunteer Prince William's Fall Reverse Raffle & Dinner in support of Untrim-A-Tree, October 19, 6:30pm at Prince William County Fairgrounds 10624 Dumfries Road, Manassas 20112.  Doors open at 6pm, the raffle begins at 7pm.  For a donation of $100, you get the opportunity to win prizes leading up to the Grand Prize of $10,000!  It should be a fun evening of good food, networking, and a chance to win the Grand Prize, all to support a cause which will guarantee vulnerable children in our community will have a Merry Christmas on December 25!  Please email president@volunteerprincewilliam.org for more information.

·  Support our veterans by giving the gift of a lift!  Our VETS program has an ongoing need for volunteers age 21+ to provide transportation to local veterans and their spouse on weekdays to medical appointments, shopping, etc.  If you're a veteran looking to connect with fellow vets or looking to fill up your day, this is a meaningful experience.  Schedules are flexible, and you'll feel great as you provide a ride, a friendly face and help this population meet their needs!  Please visit https://bit.ly/4eWwrdB for details, email jhawkins@volunteerprincewilliam.org for more information.  This opportunity is made possible by a grant from Potomac Health Foundation.

·  Volunteer Prince William's Alternative Community Service program is in Urgent need of bilingual volunteer Translators to translate for clients who want to enroll in the program but speak little or no English.  Volunteers are needed on weekdays to participate in a conference call between staff and clients to translate questions and responses during the initial intake interview.  Volunteers will be scheduled in advance for specific shifts and must be available by phone during these times.  Proficiency in English and Spanish is required.  Volunteers must also ensure that the information they translate remains accurate and maintains the same style and meaning as originally intended.  Please contact Shelley at 703.369.5292, ext. 316 or email stibbs@volunteerprincewilliam.org to learn more.

·  Please join American Foundation for Suicide Prevention for their Out of the Darkness Walk September 8 beginning at 7:15am at Harris Pavilion in Old Town Manassas.  Opportunities include set up, check in walkers, activities areas, honor beads, cheer team and more!  This family-friendly event will make you feel good as you join the fight to stop suicide and promote mental health!  Please visit https://bit.ly/3WK1DEv to sign up, email kmahoney@afsp.org for more information.

·  You can make a difference in the life of a child! CASA Children's Intervention Services needs volunteers age 21+ who care about children growing up in a safe, permanent and loving home.  The staff will hold their next Virtual Information Session on August 21, 6pm-7pm.  Learn how you can help protect abused and neglected children in your community by becoming a volunteer advocate.  Male volunteers are especially needed to be advocates and role models for the boys in their program!  Please email jpolen@casacis.org or call 703.330.8145 to receive the link to the meeting or to inquire about alternate dates.

·  Join the fight to defeat Cystic Fibrosis!  Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is holding their Great Strides Walk September 7 at Harris Pavilion in Old Town Manassas.  Volunteers are needed to help set up, greet walkers, route monitors, finish line cheerleaders and more!  It's a wonderful morning dedicated to finding a cure for this devastating disease!  Please visit https://on.cff.org/4coCncF for more information on how you can help.

·  The Greater Prince William Veteran's Treatment Docket is currently seeking Veterans age 21+ who are willing to give their time to those involved in the criminal justice system as a Peer Mentor.  Veteran Volunteers would provide assistance, guidance, and support to individuals who are enrolled in the Veteran's Treatment Docket.  Volunteers must be at least 21, be an Honorably Discharged or Retired Veteran, have no convictions and attend required training.  Please be prepared to supply a copy of your DD-214, page 4.  You'll feel great as you help return a productive, law-abiding Veteran to our community!  Please visit https://bit.ly/3HBNZxe for more information, email cmayers@pwcgov.org with any questions.

·  Just Neighbors is holding in-person Legal Clinics at Mother of Mercy Free Clinic, 13900 Church Hill Drive, Woodbridge 22191 September through November.  Bilingual volunteers are needed to assist attorneys with filling out intake packets with clients, gathering and copying documentation from clients for attorneys and interpreting for attorneys.  Volunteers must be fluent in both English and Spanish.  A 30-minute mandatory training will be held at 8:30am.  Please visit https://bit.ly/3Sx33km to sign up; email andrew@justneighbors.org to learn more.

·  Saved Hands Foundation needs volunteers to "Stuff the Backpacks" August 17, 10am-1pm.  The backpacks will be assembled at VFW Post  1503, 14631 Minnieville Road, Dale City 22193.  Volunteers are also needed to help give out backpacks on the same date, 1pm-3pm at the same location.  Many hands are needed; come help so children can have a successful beginning to the school year with a new backpack and new school supplies! Registration is required for both events, please email SHFevents@yahoo.comto request a volunteer application.

  • The wonderful staff at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton are looking for volunteers to support their Women's Equality Day on August 24, 1pm-4pm at their facility, 9518 Workhouse Way, Lorton 22079.  All volunteers are welcome; this is a family-friendly opportunity!  Duties include helping with "make-and-take" craft tables and staffing informational tables.  This should be a wonderful event which celebrates the 1920 certification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote!  Please email volunteer@workhousearts.org by August 19 to sign up and learn more.
