Position Overview
We are seeking volunteer legal professionals to support our housing nonprofit in addressing legal questions and challenges that arise in property management, housing law, nonprofit compliance, contracts, and related areas. This role is ideal for attorneys, paralegals, or legal professionals who want to use their expertise to strengthen housing stability for vulnerable families and individuals in our community.

Key Responsibilities

Provide legal advice and guidance to GSHF staff on issues related to landlord-tenant law, housing regulations, and property management.

Assist with contract review, drafting, or negotiation as needed.

Support the organization in ensuring compliance with relevant federal, state, and local housing laws and nonprofit regulations.

Help identify potential legal risks and recommend solutions.

Advise on policies, agreements, or other legal documents that support GSHF’s operations and programs.

(Optional, depending on volunteer preference) Provide pro bono assistance or referrals for residents facing specific housing-related legal issues.

Desired Skills & Qualifications

Licensed attorney in Virginia (active or retired/inactive) or experienced paralegal/legal professional.

Knowledge of landlord-tenant law, fair housing regulations, or nonprofit law preferred.

Strong analytical and communication skills.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

Position Overview
We are seeking skilled labor volunteers to assist with property maintenance and repair needs across our housing units. This role is ideal for professionals or experienced individuals in fields such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical work, roofing, carpentry, pest control, gutter repair, and other home maintenance specialties. By donating your time and expertise, you help ensure our residents live in safe, functional, and dignified homes.

Key Responsibilities

Perform repairs, maintenance, or specialized projects based on your area of expertise.

Assess property needs and provide recommendations for repairs or improvements.

Collaborate with GSHF staff and other volunteers to schedule and complete projects.

Follow all safety guidelines and ensure quality workmanship.

Use your own tools, when possible (materials may be provided by GSHF).

Maintain professionalism and respect when working in or around occupied homes.

Desired Skills & Qualifications

Experience and/or professional training in a skilled trade (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, carpentry, pest control, etc.).

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Must be reliable and committed to scheduled volunteer projects.

Office/Administrative Volunteer – assist with data entry, mailings, or filing.

Website Volunteer – support with updates, content, or technical fixes.

Social Media/Communications Volunteer – create posts, design graphics, or help with newsletters.

Grant Research Volunteer – assist staff in identifying new funding opportunities.

Photography/Videography Volunteer – document events, programs, and impact stories.

Board Member – provide governance, oversight, fundraising, and strategic support.

Advisory Committee Member – serve on a specialized committee (finance, fundraising, programs, marketing).

Corporate Volunteer Days – businesses sponsor and provide teams for service projects.

Faith/Community Group Projects – host drives, fundraising events, or awareness campaigns.

Service Day Volunteers – yard work, painting, cleaning, or light maintenance for GSHF properties.
