Who We Are

Be a Climate Defender Volunteer and make a difference in state energy and environmental policy!

The EPA recently released the Clean Power Plan, with goals for cutting carbon pollution back 32% by 2030, and Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe has said he supports this goal. What he hasn’t done yet is release the state’s plan to make that happen. The General Assembly, influenced by the coal industry, has also tried to prevent him from even being able to create this plan! Our goal for the summer is to build a team of committed volunteers who can show the Governor that Virginians are behind him, and give him the political cover he needs to push for strong regulations. We also hope our presence will present a counterweight to the relentless attacks from fossil fuel corporations, the transportation industry, the manufacturers, their lobbyists and allies in the legislature.

We’re going to do this through letters, phone calls, petitions, and, most importantly, community organizing work to build up volunteer teams.
