Greetings, Prince William - Due to inclement weather, the 3rd Annual One Prince William 5K Walk for Mental Health Awareness, originally scheduled for May 13, has been rescheduled for October 14.  Volunteers and participants will still be needed, so please mark your calendars for the new date, 8am-2pm at Locust Shade Park, 4701 Locust Shade Drive in Triangle.  Duties include setting up, handing out water bottles to walkers and cleaning up following the walk.  Volunteers, please email TYurgartis@pwcgov.org to sign up.  Walkers and runners can register for this free event at https://bit.ly/3GXQitv.

  • Urgent Need! The SERVE Family Shelter in Manassas needs volunteer groups of 5-7 people who can serve meals on Memorial Day (May 29)!  It's a terrific team-building opportunity for families or small groups!  Volunteers provide, prepare and deliver nutritious meals for about 60 guests.  Groups can either serve in-person or prepare and drop off the meal.  It's a wonderful way to celebrate the holiday and help our homeless population!  Other meal serving opportunities exist during summer - please visit nvfs.org/get-involved/volunteer/ to view available meals, please email volunteer@nvfs.org for more information.
  • Does your teen need service hours? Sweet Julia Grace Foundation is holding an Adult Field Day May 20 at The Farm Brewery at Broad Run, 16015 John Marshall Hwy, Broad Run 20137 and they need LOTS of volunteers age 12+ to support this event.  Everyone is welcome, whether individual, group, club or office!  Shifts are available on May 19 & 20; you'll love supporting this event which will raise funds for children who are facing serious illness, special needs or currently going through a medical crisis.  Please visit sweetjuliagrace.org/eventvolunteer to sign up and learn more.
  • Girls on the Run of NOVA needs volunteers age 16+ to support their season ending 5K Celebrations May 20 and 21. Events will be held at Fair Oaks Mall, 12000 Fair Oaks Mall, Fair Oaks 22033 on May 20 and BASIS Independent School, 8000 Jones Branch Drive, McLean 22102 on May 21.  Roles include Registration Support, Water Stop, Cheer Marshals, Corral Marshals, Start Finish Line Volunteers, etc.  Volunteers are also needed during packet pick up events that will be held the week before the celebrations.  You'll feel great as you support and cheer on these young runners who have been working hard on their fitness this season!  Please visit https://bit.ly/3Hwcw5Z to start the sign up process or visit their website at gotrnova.org.
  • Mark your calendar! Jenkins Donelson Foundation is holding a Get Healthy Fauquier Shoe Giveaway & Health Fair on May 20, 8am-5pm at Remington Community Garden, 160 W. Bowen Street, Remington 22734.  Volunteers age 12+ are needed to help set up, assist with handing out free shoes, assist with health fair presentations and games and help clean up once the event is finished.  You'll feel great as you help vulnerable families get access to the items they so desperately need as well as receive important health information!  Please email thejdf@jdffeet.org to learn more.
  • If you enjoy children, here's a fun event you can support! Northern Virginia Family Service's Healthy Families program is holding a Summer Picnic for their client families, and volunteers are needed to make this a fun afternoon for everyone. The picnic will be held June 7, 4pm-7pm at Signal Hill Park, 9300 Signal View Drive, Manassas Park 20111.  Duties include engaging kids and their guardians at fun activity stations such a water play area, chalk area, obstacle course, grill food, infant tummy time tent, etc.  Volunteers age 16+ welcome, volunteers age 13-15 must volunteer with a parent or guardian.  Volunteers must be available to work the full shift and are asked to be vaccinated.  You'll feel great and have loads of fun as you provide an afternoon of activities, games and good food for vulnerable families!  Please email ncannon@nvfs.org to learn more.
  • Actors & Actresses! If you enjoy role playing, here's a great event for you!  Manassas Park Social Services is holding a Mock Shelter Drill on June 13, 8am-1pm at Manassas Park Middle School, 8202 Euclid Avenue, Manassas Park 20111.  Volunteers age 16+ are needed to role play various clients with diverse types of issues (medical, mental health, etc.) trying to access a shelter.  Volunteers under 16 can help but need to volunteer with an adult.  Orientation will be held the day of the drill, and roles assigned.  All types of languages and ages are welcome!  Credit for service hours is available for those who need it.  Please email Randi.Knights@dss.virginia.gov to learn more.
  • "Busy Bee" volunteers needed! The Manassas Bee Festival will be held June 24 at Liberia House, 8601 Portner Avenue, Manassas 20110, and volunteers of all ages are needed to make this a "honey" of an event!  The day begins at 7:30am and wraps up by 3:30pm. Duties include help set up the evening before (June 23), help the day of the event (June 24) with assisting vendors, water for farm animals, assist and guide experts/music acts, direct parking, greet people, safely assist the beekeepers with supplies and help with any last minute set-up and other jobs as needed.  Volunteers of all ages welcome, although volunteers age 15 and under should volunteer with an adult.  Please view the flyer, visit manassasbeefestival.com and click on Contact to sign up.  Questions?  Please email ManassasBeeFestival@gmail.com.
