Greetings, Prince William!  We have several new volunteer opportunities this week so with that said, let's dive right in!

 

Are you interested in helping We Are Artistic at their Capital Pride Booth on June 21st?  Help them put on a welcoming, safe and inclusive Pride Booth.  They're seeking passionate people of all ages to help as activity assistants and spread good vibes!  They will hold an activity for everyone to make cards for Points of Pride.  For more information, visit their volunteer listing here: https://tinyurl.com/53mph6p3

 

The Workhouse Arts Center needs volunteers for their Annual Fireworks event on Saturday, June 27th.  Your support will be crucial for tasks like guiding attendees, assisting with parking, administering mini golf, staffing info booths, wayfinding, setting up, tearing down, and supporting vendor booths.  Volunteers can be as young as 14 with a parent.  Food and refreshments will be provided during the event.  Everyone who stays until the end will get to watch the fireworks!  Shift info and sign ups can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/5n7z2vsr

 

This year's NABA Butterfly Count is just around the corner.  Prince William Conservation Alliance would love to have you join them on Sunday, July 19th, for this important day of community science!  The data collected for the North American Butterfly Association each year helps scientist monitor butterfly numbers and track trends across the continent.  Volunteers 16+ will spend the morning identifying and counting butterflies. If you're looking for another fun outdoor opportunity with the Prince William Conservation Alliance, consider helping their Wildlife Garden Team.  Volunteers maintain the native pollinator garden at Merrimac Farm WMA. The Washington English Center (WEC), a DC-based nonprofit organization, is looking for volunteers to co-teach, substitute teach, or tutor ESOL to adult immigrants and refugees this Summer! WEC serves several hundred adult language learners each term from over 80 different countries.As a WEC volunteer, you'll have the opportunity to engage with diverse cultures, attend free teacher training, and connect with others at in-person and online volunteer socials throughout the term. No prior teaching experience is required! You'll be paired with a co-teacher and receive ongoing training and support from their staff.  ESOL classes start July 13th and run through August 19th.  Find out more or sign up here: https://tinyurl.com/y98e37zd

 

CASA is looking for volunteers for their kid's club, teen club and CASA 2 Career After School Programs.  Support academic, social-emotional, and character growth in elementary students by providing reading buddies, homework help, engaging in games, team building activities, art projects, and off-site trips.  Volunteer hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3:30 until 5:30pm.  More info: https://tinyurl.com/mv67s44j

If you love cats and dogs, Lucky Dog Animal Rescue is looking for you!  They need volunteer drivers willing to pick up dogs and cats from various locations and deliver them to adoption events or foster homes so they can be safe and find loving adoptive families! Many animals are in local boarding kennels and their only chance to get adopted is to attend Saturday and Sunday afternoon adoption events -- but unless they get a volunteer driver willing to pick them up and drop them back off if not adopted -- they aren't able to attend the events. Good Shepherd Housing Foundation (GSHF) provides safe, stable, and affordable housing to individuals and families in need throughout Prince William County. Their mission is to prevent homelessness and foster long-term housing stability, empowering residents to build stronger futures. Lutheran Social Services of the Capital Area is looking for refugee youth mentors.  Volunteers are paired with refugee youth (ages 16-24) to assist with career development and empowerment. Duties vary based on the goals and interests of the youth but tend to focus on exploring career and educational opportunities, identifying career pathways, assisting with the job search and application process (resume, cover letter, application, interview), and setting short- and long-term goals. The goal of the mentorship is to allow the youth to have a mentor that can help navigate US systems, promote civic engagement and leadership opportunities, and provide guidance with various questions and ideas as they begin thinking about future careers or higher education. More information can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/mtamnzvx

 

Beat the heat and volunteer as an ESOL Teacher this summer! BEACON is currently recruiting volunteers to teach in their online summer conversation classes from July 6-23.They are looking for passionate individuals to help adult ESOL studentsbuild confidence and strengthen their English conversation skills. No teaching experience or additional language skills are required- all training and materials are provided. This is a meaningful opportunity to connect with others, inspire learners, and help students achieve their goals while gaining valuable experience and new friendships. The Prince William County Department of Parks and Recreation is looking for Ben Lomond Historic Site Junior Preservationists.  The volunteer opportunity is available from 8:30 until 4:30 on most days.  Junior Preservationist will work with the historic preservation staff and other volunteers and will learn about how historic sites are run, how artifacts are cared for, and possibly tackle a special project suitable to the volunteer's age.  Volunteers age 13 to 18 are welcome.  Learn more here: https://tinyurl.com/4z7erb49
